Enabling Technology: The Provider Perspective
This presentation will provide an overview of key issues that need to be considered as organizations embrace the Technology First philosophy. The focus will be on providing specific tools that can be used as organizations begin to operationalize their services towards enabling technology. Leadership, change management issues, service models, and project management principles will be discussed as potential tools to support organizations as the progress through this transformation. Practical ideas and solutions will be offered for this transformational process. Presented by Dr. Gerald Bernard.
 
About Dr. Gerald Bernard
Jerry is currently the CEO of the Charles Lea Center a multi-service provider in South Carolina and North Carolina. He earned his doctorate degree from the University of Vermont in Leadership & Policy Studies. Jerry, has over 30 years' experience supporting individuals with disabilities in a variety of professional and leadership positions throughout New York, Connecticut, Vermont, and most recently in South Carolina. He has supported other organizations in the US and Canada to embrace innovation and enabling technology.  
 
There will be a 15-minute break between the morning's presentations.

Bringing Value-based Thinking to Life - 
This presentation will focus on helping providers' understand the purposes and trends relative to Alternative Payment Models (APMs). Examples of APMs in other states and Minnesota will be presented. There will be a discussion about what providers can do to prepare for APMs, which will include strategies that change the way Medicaid providers are paid as we move away from fee-for-service payments to methods of payment that incentivize value. In addition, we'll talk about why APMs are being considered. Presented by George Klauser
 
About George Klauser
In 2013, George was named executive director of Lutheran Social Service's brand-new Altair accountable care collaborative. The program applies compassionate redesign that offers people with disabilities a life-planning process where they make their own choices. George uses his experience as a health care consultant, and his seat on the Executive Cabinet, to streamline the expansion of programs and services for people with disabilities and older adults. George is responsible for managing a collaboration of community services and medical partners that represent the Altair collaborative that utilizes the Minnesota approved health information exchange for 10,300 members. His duties include strategic planning, development of a system that improves the quality of life for people with disabilities, and representation of key Altair stakeholders in discussions with the Minnesota Department of Health and Human Services.
