Telemedicine and Remote Patient Monitoring In 2002, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) broadly defined telemedicine as the use of electronic information and communications technologies to provide and support healthcare when distance separates the participants. JAMA.

The term also applies to medical devices that use video as seen in the Spencer;  in-home medication dispensing unit. Spencer can also incorporate Remote Patient Monitoring devices such as Bluetooth Connected Blood Pressure Cuff, Glucometer, Pulse Oximeter and Scale. By providing tools that can monitor changes to the health metrics of our residents, it is now possible to move into a proactive/ preventative state of medical management rather than a responding to a problem after the fact. Doctor appointments via telehealth is more important than ever due to the onset of COVID-19. Remote patient monitoring will be equally as important now that HCBS is expanding and hospital at home models are being deployed. Presented by Randall B. DeBord
